Pediatric Nurse Practitioners as Frontline Providers of Oral Health Care for Children Intensive Interactive Workshop at the NAPNAP 38th National Conference

Erin Hartnett, Donna Hallas and PNP students presented an intensive interactive workshop “Pediatric Nurse Practitioners as Frontline Providers of Oral Health Care for Children” at the NAPNAP 38th National Conference in Denver, Colorado on Thursday, March 16.

Oral health is key to the overall health and well-being of children. The exciting interprofessional role of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs) in promoting oral health and preventing early childhood caries (ECC) was emphasized. During this interactive workshop, clinical competencies related to oral health assessment, oral health promotion interventions, and collaborative partnerships with interprofessional community colleagues and resources were developed. Participants engaged in an interactive skills workshop on oral assessment, infant oral care, fluoride varnish application, toothbrushing, oral trauma prevention and emergency care.
