Webinar: Oral Health of Older Adults in Acute Care Settings

The oral health care of patients, especially elderly patients, in acute care or hospital settings is often overlooked.  Studies have shown that poor oral hygiene is prevalent among hospitalized older adults and it can result in difficulty eating, malnutrition, ventilator acquired pneumonia (VAP), and other complications. Integrating oral health into the nursing care plan and utilizing a collaborative care approach could reduce the incidence of these complications. This webinar, put on by NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders), the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing (HIGN), and the Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice (OHNEP) program, will discuss the primary oral health problems in acute care settings as well as interprofessional strategies to promote good oral hygiene in these settings.
