The Importance of Oral Health for Populations with Cardiovascular Disease

The Importance of Oral Health for Populations with Cardiovascular Disease will be presented by the OHNEP team for the Oral Health Progress and Equity Network (OPEN) network Wednesday April 27 at 3:00pm EST. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of mortality in the US. One person dies every 36 seconds from CVD. It is proposed that there are links between oral health and CVD. Inflammation and infection are significant in increasing the risk of developing heart disease or infection-related cardiac complications. This presentation aims to increase knowledge about the links between oral health and CVD. Interprofessional education and clinical strategies for health professionals – medical, dental and pharmacy – will be presented.
