The Impact of Oral-Systemic Health on Advancing Interprofessional Education Outcomes
Please check out our new open access publication "The Impact of Oral-Systemic Health on Advancing Interprofessional Education Outcomes" in the Journal of Dental Education. The article describes the Teaching Oral-Systemic Health (TOSH) Program Interprofessional Oral-Systemic Health Clinical Simulation and Case Study Experience, which is a standardized, replicable curriculum unit, using oral-systemic health as a population health exemplar, to teach and assess interprofessional competencies to future primary care providers, including nurse practitioner, midwifery, dental, and medical students. Team-based clinical activities like the TOSH IPE Experience focused on oral manifestations of chronic health conditions provide increased understanding of oral-systemic linkages and the importance of a collaborative care model. Integrating interprofessional oral health competencies into the education of future primary care providers is an innovative approach to strengthening the health care workforce to address unmet population health issues.
